Vercel build failed: Command "npm run build" exited with 1
Error: Command "npm run build" exited with 1In one sentence: Your app failed to build on Vercel. The real error is a few lines above this message in the build log.
What it means
This line is only the summary. Vercel ran your build command and it failed. The actual reason (a type error, a missing module, a lint error, a missing env var) is printed earlier in the build log.
It often works locally and fails on Vercel because Vercel does a clean install on Linux, with strict type checking and only the environment variables you've added in the dashboard.
Common causes
- TypeScript or ESLint errors (Next.js fails the production build on these).
- A file name's capitalization doesn't match its import (Linux is case-sensitive).
- Missing environment variables in Vercel Project Settings → Environment Variables.
- A package used locally but not saved in package.json, or a lock file out of sync.
- Code that runs at build time (e.g. a page fetching data) fails without network access or keys.
How to fix it
- Open the deployment → Build Logs and scroll up to the first red error. That's the one to fix.
- Run `npm run build` locally; you'll usually see the same error.
- Add any required env vars in Vercel for the Production environment, then redeploy.
- Commit package.json and the lock file together after installing packages.
